The Countrypolitan
Most bands choose between quantity and quality. They Might Be Giants chooses both. Named for one of my favorite movies, this Brooklyn duo is one of the world's most distinctive and prolific bands. After playing together for over a quarter century and writing literally hundreds of songs, John Linnell and John Flansburgh continue to straddle genres and keep things funny and interesting. Their cocktail here is exceptionally refined, pleasantly tart and packed with antioxidants, thanks to its natural cranberry- and pomegranate-juice combo. It is quite strong, too. My mom loves this one, but since she's a lightweight she likes to drink one part Countrypolitan with three parts seltzer.
Ingredients:
2 parts vodka (not infused)
1 part Cointreau
1 part real cranberry juice (not cranberry juice cocktail)
1 part pomegranate juice
A liberal amount of fresh lime juice
Directions:
Shake ingredients with ice, then strain into a martini or champagne cocktail glass. Makes one drink.
